How to Calm a Reactive or Anxious Dog

Because calm is  something you need to  teach

Calm behaviour doesn’t just happen, it's something you create through the way you live and interact with your dog. If your dog doesn’t understand the word calm, we have to start from the very basics, chances are, they simply don’t know what you’re asking for. This course helps you lay those foundations early, reinforcing calm habits and routines that grow with your dog.

Sound familiar?

This course is for you if your dog is:

  • Can’t settle or is constantly “on”
  • Reacts to sounds, people, dogs or movement
  • Struggles to focus or calm down during training
  • Paces, barks, or whines at home
  • Has tried other training without long-term results
  • Gets over-excited, over-aroused or is always “busy”
  • Seems uncomfortable, tense or easily triggered

Understanding your dog's hidden needs

Every behaviour tells a story. We help you read between the lines and give you practical steps to make lasting changes.

Training that speaks their language

Mental stimulation transforms behaviour with long lasting affects, if you understand how to teach your dog a new behaviour, you’ll get results. We show you how.

Calm starts from within

Behaviour is a reflection of internal state. Our approach addresses root causes, not just symptoms. Let’s get to the bottom of the behaviour, not patch it up.

Turn frustration, excitement and anxiousness into relaxation

When your dog struggles to settle, it’s not about the trigger, it’s about what’s going on underneath. The Calm Canine course gives you the tools to change that  not through quick fixes, but through understanding. You’ll learn how nutrition, body tension, and training all work together to build calm from the inside out.

FAQs

We know that getting starting with training might seem a bit overwhelming, here are some frequently asked questions to help.

How long does the course take?

The Calm Canine is self-paced. Most clients complete modules within X-X weeks, but you have lifetime access to revisit content.

Will this work for my dog's breed?

Our methods are universal. Whether you have a high-energy puppy or a senior dog, these techniques can be used to start implementing calm behaviour. . It is important to remember that some dogs may need to see a specialist trainer depending on their history, background and require a more personalised plan.

What equipment do I need?

No special equipment is required, it should be items you have at home or can access easily, this includes a crate or bed for ‘place’ command, fixed length lead, high value treats, and a willingness to learn and connect.

Can this help anxious dogs?

Absolutely. Our course specifically addresses anxiety through mental stimulation and confidence-building techniques.

How long can I access content?

You get permanent lifetime access. Learn at your pace, revisit modules, and continue growing with your dog.

Can food really affect my dog’s anxiety levels?

Yes! The gut and brain are closely linked through what’s called the gut-brain axis. A healthy gut can support serotonin production, a key chemical that helps regulate mood and calmness. If you’re worried about your dogs behaviour please go to your chosen vet to seek medical advice and a personalised approach.

What nutrients or supplements help calm anxious dogs?

As every dog is different, please seek advice from your vet or veterinary nutritionist for a personalised approach, tailored to your dog’s health and needs.

How do I know if my dog is getting the right nutrition?

Look for signs like steady energy levels, a healthy coat, regular digestion, and stable behaviour. If you're unsure, consult a vet or nutritionist. We’ll give you basic tools to assess this too.

Should I free-feed or stick to scheduled meals to support calm behaviour?

Structured, consistent feeding routines can help reduce stress. It creates routine and predictability, which is soothing for most dogs.

Is raw feeding better for anxiety?

Not necessarily. Diets should be balanced and complete, whether raw, kibble, or fresh cooked. The focus is on nutrients, not just format. Please seek advice from your vet or veterinary nutritionist for a personalised plan.
